Forthcoming Diary Dates at The Lexington ~ London’s Best New Small Venue

Media_httppopjunkielo_ahgkn

My good chum Delia Sparrow sends me weekly bulletins of all the good things going down at The Lexington on London’s Pentonville Road. It’s high time I passed on the info to Pop Junkie readers. One of London’s newest venues is already established as one of its best for small, intimate gigs having hosted a sell-out show for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart back in May. I saw the great Proxy Music there and can confirm the venue has a friendly atmosphere with a good sound and good vantage points.

Each week starts with the Monday night Rough Trade Music Quiz hosted by Paul Guided Missile. 8pm – £1 per team member, up to 6 in a team.

Here’s the diary for the rest of this week (with Delia’s descriptions, not mine!).

Twilight Sad are a Scottish four-piece playing melancholic alt-pop songs with rich layers of melodic noise inspired by Daniel Johnston, Serge Gainsbourg, Phil Spector, Arab Strap and Leonard Cohen (see youtube clip below). Plus moving away from their post punk origins, Factory Floor are increasingly to be found embracing dark arpeggiator noise, like Donna Summer down the meat rendering works.

Why not pretend it’s the 1380s?” or a band described as “out of step with any music made since the War of the Roses”?
