The Glitter Band Play at GlamRacket next Saturday

Regular Pop Junkies will know that I have a certain sympathy with those fair people who remain stuck in 1973 i.e. glamsters. The latest of Heidi Heelz and Tim Purr’s GlamRacket nights takes place on Saturday 30th May at The Lexington on London’s Pentonville Road.

This month’s star guests are The Glitter Band. You’ll be pleased to know that the fat bloke who used to sing with them has been firmly jettisoned, but they will no doubt be playing the hits they had in their own right between ’74 and ’76. Who can forget Angel Face, Goodbye My Love, The Tears I Cried or Love in the Sun?

I assume they still have the double drum line-up that was such an inspiration to Mark E Smith and Adam Ant among others.

It’s a great venue with a friendly vibe and DJs will be playing plenty of T.Rex, Suzi Quatro, Roxy Music, Sparks, Bowie, Sweet and dozens of people and bands you’ve never heard of till 4am.

However, I would like to take issue with their claim to be a ‘Proper 1970s Glam Night’. Not till the Lexington serves Double Diamond on tap, it isn’t…!
