Pop Junkie says Don’t Demolish the Astoria ~ Sign the Online Petition

Following last week’s sad demise of the London Astoria, a Facebook site, Stop the Demolition of the Astoria, is gathering momentum and, more importantly, signatures in an attempt, if not to save the old building, to get it replaced with something similar. The current plan would appear to be to demolish the whole site in March. Westminster Council plan to appease gig-goers with a 250 seat theatre in place of the current 2,000 capacity venue.

My guess is that you’ll have to be a Facebooker to see the site and sign the petition, but I imagine a fair few of you in Popjunkietvland qualify. The site currently has 2,800 members, although only 720 have signed the petition. It’s numbers on the petition that count. Pop Junkie is throwing its, not inconsiderable, post-yuletide weight solidly behind the appeal.
